Black Canopy

Under a black canopy of satin and down

Carefully undressed like a costly gift

The lover is taken to forget a hunger

Not known until now

Struggling embers crackle and die

The soul asks the mind why

Life doesn't trickle in with the moonlight

Or the brush of flesh against blue cotton

Sleep brings it's offering of refuge

Stories and lies from the death state

Give way to a heart that pleads

To a pious ghost of the arduous night

Tears and thoughts of other days

Of whisper of want

Beneath the breath of sweet pain

Unspeakable promises of love

Under a black canopy dreams come

A song of change once forgotten

Stirs images of flight with wings

And warm fluid nectar of desire

The dark awakens as the lover sleeps

With fluid motion of truth and lust

And the solitary touch becomes a dance

The insatiable want of one that needs

Hidden by the face of the sun

And cloaked in cold arms

The secret edges are sealed

And warm light forgives

Under a Black canopy
